STLTTS believes that the best place for a turtle is in the wild, and keeping turtles confined indoors is inhumane because:
Sunlight is a turtle's/tortoise's main nutrient; without it, they suffer health problems
They love to roam and are stressed if confined in small spaces.
Missouri turtles need to hibernate to stay healthy.
Turtles are wild animals.
All turtles can carry salmonella, which can be harmful to children.
We offer presentations to schools, scouts and other organizations where we bring several types of turtles to the presentation.. The presentation includes information on Missouri Turtles and the work that STLTTS is doing in Missouri to help save turtles. It covers the basics on the turtle as a species, its natural history, habitat and life cycle.
We offer the following programs either individually or in any combination depending on the time available and the number of participants:
